Today is going to be a good day. You know why? Today is going to be a good day because you are here. In this post I am going to be talking about today. Today is what we can control. We can’t change anything that happened yesterday because that is in the past. I am not going to talk about tomorrow because all you can do is wonder about what is going to happen. Tomorrow is like a sunset. You can chase it all you want but you are never going to catch it.
After being elected as a state officer my mind went right into what I did during the election process and what I am going to do in the coming year. I would sit for hours just “what if-ing” everything. All it did for me is make me lose sight of what was right in front of me. I would worry and try and figure out what I did wrong and how I could fix it. Wonder about what was going to happen in the future. I would play out every single scenario I could think of so that way I would be prepared for any event. What I needed to realize is that I just needed to go with the flow.
In October of 2021, I got to go visit one of my good friends at Colorado State University. He gave me a tour of the campus, we ate some amazing food, I got to meet many of his college friends, and I got to be the football team’s “lucky charm” for their game. While I was there I had nothing planned. Each time he asked me what I wanted to do, I looked at him and said, “I’m just going with the flow.” I was so happy to not worry about anything and just live in the present moment.
I’m sure each of us wonders what we are going to do in the future or we sit and contemplate about something that we should have done differently in the past. If I could give a single piece of advice to you it would be this: Live in the moment. Go with the flow. Give yourself ten minutes to freak out about something that happened and then learn from it. If you are freaking about something that is going to happen in the future, cross that bridge when you come to it. Don’t try and control a situation, just let it all play out. “Happiness is like a butterfly. The more you chase it, the more it will elude you, but if you turn your attention to other things, it will come and sit softly on your shoulder.” Don’t stress about things you can’t control. Will you waste your days talking about how you wish you did something differently or are you going to write yourself a new story?
Today is going to be a good day. Don’t let something you can’t control ruin it. Spend all 86,400 seconds of it doing things that make you happy and enjoying the present moment.
One last thing, YOU. ARE. VALUED.
Best wishes,
