Just a few weeks ago, our team was in Washington D.C. exploring all the monuments and making new connections with state officers from across the nation. After returning home to the state of Oregon, we had the opportunity to meet with industry leaders, community supporters, and fellow members during business visits and our recent State Executive Committee meeting. Each stop on this journey offered something unique; new lessons, different perspectives, and insight into what makes Oregon FFA so special. The one thing that stood out to me through all of this was kindness.

In every town we visited, in every conversation, and in every handshake, kindness was the common thread that tied it all together. Whether it was a business owner taking time to share their story, an advisor offering encouragement, or a fellow officer lending a helping hand, these small acts reminded me just how powerful kindness truly is.

Sometimes, it’s easy to get caught up in the rush, planning meetings, preparing speeches, or checking another item on the to-do list. But through these experiences, I have learned that it’s important to take the time to lead with kindness, to be patient, and to act with compassion because these things can make all the difference.

Now, as I find myself back home at my own county fair, surrounded by the familiar sights of livestock barns, friends catching up, and the smell of funnel cakes and sawdust, I’m reflecting on what I’ve learned. County fair brings something unique and special. It’s where hard work meets community and where kindness shows up in every form. From a neighbor helping set up a stall or someone encouraging a first-time showman, kindness is everywhere.

Soon, our team will gather again at the Oregon State Fair, ready to showcase the efforts of FFA members and celebrate their achievements. My hope is that we all carry the kindness we’ve experienced this summer into everything we do.

Kindness isn’t just a trait, it’s a choice- a powerful one.

Sincerely,

Kendall Holcomb
